Subject: Vacation Rental Restrictions for North Topsail Beach
The growing concern for the spread of COVID-19 continues to disrupt daily life. While we understand that restrictions can be frustrating, it is our collective responsibility to take proactive measures now to lessen the consequences for our community.
On March 23rd, leaders across Topsail Island met to discuss vacation rentals. Restricting vacation rentals for a short period of time could limit community exposure and protect local resources such as food and medical supplies. Additionally, taking these measures now may preserve the opportunity to have a successful season for both our residents and our summer guests.
With deep consideration for all possible outcomes, North Topsail Beach, Surf City and Topsail Beach agree that restrictions are needed. Because each town is unique, there is variance in how rentals are limited across Topsail Island.
Rental restrictions, which apply to rentals less than 3 months in duration, for the Town of North Topsail Beach are below:
Enforcement commences Saturday, March 28th, and lasts through April 25th
Essential public services exempt (ex: military special orders or utility workers)
For those renters who have “checked-in” but whose current agreement extended beyond March 28th, you will be allowed to finish the current terms of your contract, but you will not be allowed to extend.
Elected officials are actively monitoring the situation and will adjust restrictions as circumstances dictate
The Board of Aldermen also encourages the public to restrict travel unless essential, avoid gatherings of more than 10 people, and practice social distancing of 6 feet or more.
Please, continue to contact your representatives with concerns. This is an evolving issue and will be reevaluated on a continuing basis. Thank you for your cooperation.
