Press Release: North Topsail Beach Town Park Reopening
It is no secret that Hurricane Florence left a lasting impression on the people of Eastern North Carolina; the storm’s remnants are still visible around the region. In North Topsail Beach, one painful reminder has been the Town’s park. Residents and visitors have long enjoyed the opportunity to play tennis, pick up a game of basketball, take shade at a picnic table or enjoy the spectacular view of the Intracoastal Waterway. Losing these opportunities to enjoy life on the coast was one more sore reminder of the wake of destruction one storm can create.
Today, we are pleased to announce that North Topsail Beach takes another step forward in restoring our community. The long-awaited park project has been completed. We are pleased to announce that the park will officially reopen tomorrow morning, July 24th, with one exception. While repairs to the park included improvements to the children’s playground, that area must remain temporarily closed due to Covid19 restrictions.
The reconstruction project cost approximately $600,000. The Town is seeking FEMA reimbursements and believes it qualifies for nearly $200,000 in recovery funds. In a time where there is a shortage of contractors and other financial factors to consider, the Board of Aldermen thanks everyone for their patience and support. We look forward to seeing you at the park!
