Hurricane Isaias

As you are probably aware, Hurricane Isaias has formed in the Atlantic and its current track is expected to bring it north into the Carolinas. AT THIS TIME the effects of the storm are anticipated to be felt here in North Topsail Beach beginning late Sunday night, peaking Monday early afternoon, and dissipating by evening.

According to the National Weather Service we can expect the storm to last 6 to 8 hours, have winds as high as 75 mph, and bring 3-4” of rain. They cannot yet predict a storm surge, but 6’ to 12’ storm surges are possible. An increased probability of dangerous rip currents will begin tonight (Friday) and worsen into next week.

AT THIS TIME - Onslow County does not expect to activate its Emergency Operations Center or Shelters, but emergency management officials will be monitoring the storm closely and all may change with the storm track and strength.

Residents are urged to begin taking sensible precautions, including ensuring that loose objects around their homes are secured, and prudent storm preparations are made. Please monitor all local news outlets, this website, and for up to date information.
