Program for Public Information

In support of the Town's Community Rating System (CRS) participation, the Board of Aldermen appointed the Planning Board members, local insurance agents and a local lender as founding members of the Program for Public Information (PPI) Committee on March 5, 2015.

The purpose is the PPI is to improve communication with citizens, and to provide information about flood hazards, flood safety, flood insurance and ways to protect property and natural floodplain functions.

  • Map Information Service (MIS) - the Town can provide information to you from your Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM), Flood Risk Information Map and other sources regarding:

     Base Flood Elevation (BFE);

     Coastal Barrier Resource System (CBRS) or Otherwise Protected Area (OPA);

     Coastal erosion; 

     Coastal high hazard areas; 

     Drainage problems;

     Flood depths at your property; 

     Flood and hurricane history in the area;

     Flood zone;

     Future flooding;

     Natural conservation areas and wetlands; 

     Special rules for building in the floodplain. 

  • Copies of FEMA Elevation Certificates (Activity 310) 
  • Technical assistance on property protection (Activity 360) 
  • Technical assistance on flood insurance (Activity 370) 
  • Flood Protection Information CRS Coordinator’s Manual 350-12 Edition: 2013 
  • Permit requirements for construction and development in the floodplain; higher standards and special rules for building in the floodplain (Activity 430 and Activity 450)
  • Maintaining the drainage maintenance system and carrying out related procedures and responsibilities
