POLICE OFFICER - FULL TIME

Two (2) VACANCIES

 

The Town of North Topsail Beach is currently accepting applications for two (2) full time Police Officer positions.  All applicants for the Police Officer position must meet on of the following conditions:  1) Possess a North Carolina Basic Law Enforcement Certification, 2) Be currently enrolled in a North Carolina Basic Law Enforcement Training program, 3) Possess a probationary certification with the North Carolina Criminal Justice/Sheriff's Standards, or 4) Possess a general certification with the North Carolina Criminal Justice/Sheriff's Standards.

Full Time Firefighter II/EMT-B

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

 

The applicant must possess both NC Firefighter II certification and Hazmat Level I certification (Operations). North Carolina EMT-B and be able to pass the locally required Oral Boards within 12 months of employment; possess a high school diploma or GED, and obtain a NC Class B Driver’s License within 90 days of employment.

 

Experience Preferred:  3 years in the fire service and 1 year as a driver operator.

 

Starting Full Time Salary: Base Pay $ 30,330.30 with Benefit Package

ORDINANCE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER

PART-TIME – SEASONAL

The Town of North Topsail Beach is currently accepting applications for a Part Time (Seasonal) Ordinance Enforcement Officer.

Essential Duties and Tasks:

  1. Enforce Town ordinances associated with parking and activities on the ocean beach and the permissible driving area along the New River.

  2. Educate public on Town ordinances.

  3. Coordinate with beach interns and Police Department.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Desired:

  • Experience enforcing Town beach and parking codes.

  • Knowledge of local codes related to the Town’s beaches, permissible driving area, and parking.

  • Working knowledge of federal/state laws and regulations related to Town code.

  • Working knowledge of legal procedures related to enforcement of ordinances.

  • Skill in interpreting ordinances in their application to specific situations.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with irate individuals and to diffuse conflict situations tactfully and firmly in a consistent manner.

  • Ability to establish working relationships with officials, property owners, rental companies, coworkers and the general public.

  • Ability to maintain reports and records, in writing and on computer.

         

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of sight, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, lifting, talking, hearing and repetitive motion.

  • Must be able to perform work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally.

  • Most possess the visual acuity to read, operate computer and motor vehicle, use measurement devices, prepare reports and perform inspection and enforcement tasks.

 

Education and Experience:

  • High school graduate

  • Experience with code enforcement and dealing with public

  • Experience with beach code enforcement

           

Special Requirements

  • Ability to communicate well with public

  • Driver’s license (will be operating a 4x4 vehicle)

 

Compensation:  $12/hr.

Hours:   Saturdays and Sundays during the day and some late nights and early mornings.  Hours will be flexible as a portion of the duties require enforcement of the Town's unattended beach equipment ordinance and are subject to high tide times.

Reserve Police Officer 

Positions Available

 

 

The Town of North Topsail Beach Police Department seeks reserve police officers to perform general law enforcement duties to include, but not limited to:  Investigating traffic collisions, answering general calls for service and complaints, protecting life and property, enforcing traffic and criminal laws and ordinances, preventing and investigating criminal activity, testifying in court, performing related work as required, and writing detailed and factual reports.

 

Reserve police positions are eligible for hourly compensation upon successful completion of the department’s field training program.  The department recruits heavily from the reserve program to fill full-time positions as they become available.

 

Completion of high school/GED; NC Basic Law Enforcement Certification; Possession of a valid NC driver’s license, willing to work rotating shifts; Possession of basic computer skills needed to support job functions; Ability to represent the town in a professional and respectful manner, while interacting with all members of our community and within the workplace.
